15 March 1887 – Priest and professor GHEORGHE GHIA was born in Carjelari, county of Tulcea. Secondary school studies in Iaşi; higher studies at the Faculty of Theology of Bucharest (graduated in 1911, doctor’s degree 1923); specialized studies in Theology and Classic Philology in Leipzig (1912 – 1914), priest of the princely church of Bârlad (1919); Religion professor and priest in Craiova (1920-1945); specialized inspector in the Ministry for National Education (1940 – 1945).
Works: Teaching on the Kingdom of God in the New Testament (1925), Saint John the Baptist according to the canonical Gospels (1926). Attitude of the Lord towards the Law of the Old Testament. Contribution to the Exegesis of the New Testament (1929); Bread of Life. Biblical texts explained (1938). Manuals of Religion for the first forms of secondary school forms (in several editions). He was editor of “Renasterea” magazine in Craiova (1922-1925) and director (1926 – 1936), member of the editorial committee (1939 – 1945). He published over 70 articles, over 120 reviews, chronicles etc. Other collaborations: “Biserica Ortodoxa Romana”, “Revista teologica” (Sibiu) etc.
He passed away on 2 December 1945 in Craiova.
