Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11)
The voice of the angels who brought to the shepherds the good news of the Incarnation of the Son of God is always alive in our souls, “Young baby born to us”, in the poor manger of Bethlehem, when He becomes Man, without a home, an alien and wanderer, to bring to the home of the Heavenly Father those alienated from Him.
Becoming a Man like us, except from sin, God chose the humble, mysterious path to reach us, because He wants us to answer His love in a free way. He makes Himself an alien and wanderer, poor and helpless, in order for us, with love and good will, to turn that who is alien into our friend, that who wanders into a guest into our home. God’s love is altogether all-powerful and humble: the One who is limitless is contained in a manger, the eternal One becomes a baby.
The year 2008, which we are now ending, was tormented and tried by many conflicts, which led to the deaths of so many innocent human lives. In many places around the world, the lack of love, the intolerance and hatred are bringing among people sufferings and destruction. All these are painfully also affecting the family.
The Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ as a Baby into a family calls us today to grant more attention to the family, in general, and to the Christian family, in particular, confronted not only by the economic crisis, but also by the moral and spiritual one as well. The gift offered to the humankind by God through the Nativity of His Son in time, which shows His endless love towards the entire creation, gives us strength and hope to vanquish the difficulties of life.
On the occasion of the Holy Feasts of the Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, of the New Year 2009 and of the Baptism of the Lord, we are sending you our brotherly wishes of peace, good health and help from Christ our Lord in all your good and useful deeds, together to the traditional wish: Happy New Year!
