„THE CATHEDRAL FOR THE NATION’S SALVATION”, A GIFT OF YOURS TO ETERNITY. Preparatory Phases for construction and consecration
In order to achieve the Architectural Ensemble “Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation”, the ideas and suggestions expressed by the expert architects and engineers for completing the Projection Theme were debated in three thematic symposiums held at the Patriarchal Palace on 15 December 2008, 26 June 2009 and 9-10 December 2009. On 28 December 2009, the Romanian Patriarchate launched the bidding for selecting the project of the “Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation”, as this construction work has the value of a Christian symbol in the conscience and life of the Romanian people. The presentation of the frame files that engage the bidder to work out the project took place on 26 January 2010. The names of the validated bidders will be published in a press release. The participation offer including the Feasibility Study and the Technical Documentation for getting the Building License is to be submitted by the bidders by 31 May 2010. The Estimation Commission, made up of the experts assigned by the Standing Meeting of the Church National Council, and confirmed through Patriarchal Decree, will analyze and estimate the offers presented in one month time, so that on 30 June 2010 the winner bidder to be known through a press release published in “Lumina” newspaper and on the site of the Romanian Patriarchate. The contract of complete projection of the Cathedral construction will end once the winner bidder is declared, so that in July 2010 the constructor of the Cathedral should be selected. The Romanian Patriarchate would like to begin at the beginning of August, at last, the effective construction of the Cathedral for Nation’s Salvation, hoping that in three years, till the end of 2013, to be raised and covered (the red brick phase), and then to pass to fitting and furbishing in order to consecrate it in 2015. The projection theme has also stipulated that the dimensions of the New Cathedral should be the following: 120 m long, 70 m wide and 120 high, so that the religious services inside the Cathedral to be attended by 5,000 people. So, the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation will be neither small, nor big, neither cheap, nor expensive, but we hope, a symbol of the Romanian soul in an uplifting prayer to heaven. “As an Orthodox church is the architectural coating of a spiritual content, namely the communion of the people faithful with Christ – the head of the living Church, “The same yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8), every Orthodox church should express the eternity in time, so in every century. The century print can be seen in what is brought new to the respective century as a reflex and as an offering too, concerning not only the construction materials, but also the interpretation of the sacred space. Therefore, the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation should be built so as to become a theological word built in symbol, a sacred space, for symbolizing the communion of the people with God the One and Holy, more exactly the communion with the Holy Trinity and with all the saints of all centuries. This main idea of communion, as a gathering of the people in the love of the Holy Trinity through the faith in Jesus Christ – the Head of the Church - extends both inside and outside the Cathedral through the symbol of the porch united with the cup shaped patio around and in front of the Cathedral” (His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania). We kindly ask you to help us to build the Cathedral of the Nation’s Salvation, so that you should be both on the earth and in heaven among the founders “happy and always remembered!” The Romanian Patriarchate, the Patriarchal Administration, fiscal code:RO4430779.
