His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel emphasised in his speech the significance of this summer altar: “This altar in the inner garden of the Patriarchal Residence reminds us of the fact that the Holy Gospel according to John witnesses the fact that Christ, our Lord, was crucified in a garden too, and that the tomb in which He was laid after he died was also in a garden. He is said here to have been laid in a new tomb, in the garden, because the tomb was nearby. This is why, one can see in Jerusalem, in the Resurrection church that the altar built in the memory of the sacrifice on Golgotha is very close to the place where the tomb was, so that the assertion of the Gospel according to John is full of significance. We have also given this significance to the summer altar set up in an inner garden of the Patriarchal Residence”.
To end with, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel awarded a diploma of merit to the team who arranged the summer altar – SC Chivotul Mare SRL – the construction firm of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, and the order of “Saint Steven the Great” to Patriarchal Counsellor Nicolae Crângaşu, co-ordinator of the Department of Funds for church activity, for having organised and supervised the construction works.
