'The Holy Carol within the Soul of Children at the Nativity of the Lord'

Yesterday, December 18, 2009, in the Europa Christiana Hall of the Patriarchate's Palace in Bucharest, the prizes for the national contest 'The Icon within the Child's Soul', the 17th edition, organized by the Romanian Patriarchate in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation. The 'Holy Carol within the Soul of Children at the Nativity of the Lord' festivity was attended by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.

After a concert by several groups of carol singers, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel explained the connection between icons and religious singing: 'In our Orthodox tradition, the image of the icon is joined by singing, by apolytikion. We are looking at icons and we are singing spiritual songs, which, in words, express the same thing or saving truth as the icons.'
