The New Year 2010 was welcomed in the Romanian Patriarchate by the clergy and faithful through special thanksgiving services for all the gifts which God has bestowed in the year which passed, but also for the blessing of the new year which just started. At midnight between the two years, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel celebrated a Te Deum service at the Patriarchal Cathedral. Since 2000, the thanksgiving service is being also celebrated at midnight between the two years, not only after the Holy Liturgy of January 1.

In his sermon, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel said that 'the prayer at midnight is more meaningful, because at midnight we are going from one day to the other. And on this passing, on this Passover of time, we, who are passing, are thanking God, who is eternal. We, who are living in time, are thanking God, Who is above time. We, who are living in a certain place in space, are thanking God Who is above space. We, who are of this world, are thanking God, Who created the world, who cares for it, but is above the world.'
