On 31 August 2011, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, received at the Patriarchal Residence, His Excellency Ion Jinga, Romanian Ambassador in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The Romanian Ambassador thanked for reception and presented the points of the co-operation between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the diplomatic mission which he will lead in view of supporting and promoting the interests of the Romanian Diaspora in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
During the meeting, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel made a concise presentation of the multiple pastoral-missionary, social-philanthropic and cultural-educational activities that the Romanian Orthodox Church unfolds in a dynamic permanently growing Diaspora. In this context, the Patriarch of Romania emphasised the importance of the development and implementation of the European programmes designed to contribute to the integration of the Romanian immigrants in the British society, as well as to keeping their cultural religious identity.
The Romanian Ambassador took turns in underlining the fact that the involvement of the Romanian Orthodox Church in the settlement of the problems of the largest Romanian Diaspora of all times, as the one today, ensures social cohesion and better mutual knowing.
His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel also emphasised the importance of the dialogue among the Christian Churches in order to promote the religious values in the European contemporary society. In this sense, the Patriarch of Romania mentioned the need of practical co-operation for solving some pastoral, social, and cultural problems in a society marked by the phenomenon of secularisation, migration, unemployment and poverty.
A visit of the Patriarch of Romanian to Great Britain will be possible on the occasion of the painting of the Romanian Orthodox church in Leeds city, maybe in 2013.
