Acting President of the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church
Your Eminence,
It is with deep Christian grief that we received the news of the passing away from this world, in the morning of Sunday, the 15th of November 2009, of His Beatitude Pavle, Patriarch of Serbia, wise and spiritual shepherd for over five decades, out of which the last 19 years as patriarch.
His death represents a moment of sadness not only for the entire Serbian Orthodox Church, but also for us, who have met him personally several times.
We pray Christ our Lord, the One whom he served all along his life, sometimes in difficult circumstances for the Serbian Orthodox Church, to repose his soul together with His righteous and His servant saints.
On behalf of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church and of us, personally, we express our fraternal condolences to the whole of the Serbian Orthodox Church and we pray the Most Holy Trinity to keep her in the unity and in the love of Jesus Christ, the eternal High Priest and the Head of the Church.
May his memory be eternal!
