His Excellency thanked for reception and conveyed a message of friendship and appreciation on behalf of the Cypriot people and emphasised the very good traditional relations between the two Orthodox countries and peoples.
In this context, Mr. Ambassador mentioned the fact that in 2010, when reaching 50 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Romania and Cyprus, the Embassy will organise an anniversary festivity in the autumn, and extended the invitation to have a representative of the Romanian Patriarchy among the participants.
His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel appreciated the brotherly relations between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Church of Cyprus and expressed his hope to intensify the co-operation between the two Orthodox peoples. In this sense, the Patriarch of Romania proposed to organise some symposiums dedicated to the historical, cultural and religious relations between the two Churches, as well as to reflect the important events in the life of the Church of Cyprus, in the programmes of the Trinitas Radio and Television Stations as well as in Lumina publications.
During the meeting, the situation of the inhabitants and of the cultural spiritual patrimony in the North of Cyprus was also discussed. Mr. Ambassador also mentioned the efforts of the authorities from Nicosia to identify a concrete solution in the spirit of the principles of the European Union, with the observation of the rights of all the inhabitants of Cyprus.
His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel expressed the solidarity with the Cypriote people, on behalf of the clergy and faithful of the Romanian Orthodox Church, as well as the hope to find a solution to solve the Cypriote issue, and to protect its very precious national and spiritual patrimony, part of the cultural universal legacy.
