THE PATRIARCH OF ROMANIA WILL PAY AN OFFICIAL VISIT  TO THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE OF STRASBOURG
THE PRESS OFFICE OF THE ROMANIAN PATRIARCHATE informs us:

From 9 – 10 April 2011, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel will pay a canonical visit to Strasbourg, at the invitation of His Eminence Metropolitan Iosif of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan See for Western and Meridional Europe, and from 11 – 13 April 2011, the Patriarch of Romania will be on an official visit to the Council of Europe seated at Strasbourg, at the invitation of Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Saturday, 9 April 2011, 18.15 hours, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel will celebrate a memorial service and consecrate three new memorial crosses in the Romanian military cemetery in Haguenau locality, situated 20 km North of Strasbourg.

Sunday, 10 April 2011, 9.30 hours, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel will consecrate the altar screen of the church of Saint John the Baptist of the Romanian Orthodox parish of Strasbourg and the parochial chapel dedicated to Saint John the Wallachian, then will celebrate the Divine Liturgy assisted by a group of hierarchs, priests and deacons. After the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude will bless the school, conference room and the library of the Romanian Orthodox parish of Strasbourg.

In the afternoon, at 17.30 hours, the Patriarch of Romania will consecrate the church dedicated to Saints Cosma and Damian of the Romanian Orthodox parish in the city of Mulhouse, situated about 100 km South of Strasbourg.

Monday, 11 April 2011, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel will meet at the Council of Europe of Strasbourg Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland, General Secretary of the Council of Europe, Mr. Thomas Hammarberg, commissioner for Human Rights and Mr. Jean-Paul Costa, president of the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR). Further on, the Patriarch of Romania will meet the members of the Romanian Parliamentary delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).


In the evening, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel will participate in a dinner offered in the honour of His Beatitude by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Strasbourg and will deliver the conference with the theme Orient, Occident: The Present Challenges Of The Inter-Religious Dialogue, organised at the Cathedral of Strasbourg.

Tuesday, 12 April 2011, 9.00 o’clock, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel will meet Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Then, at 10.00 o’clock, the Patriarch of Romania will attend the working session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe with the theme The Inter-religious Dimension of the Inter-cultural Dialogue and will deliver an allocution in the plenary of the Parliamentary Assembly.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and the accompanying delegation will return to Bucharest on 13 April 2011.
