His Beatitude,
His Holiness SHENOUDA III,
Pope and Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church
Your Holiness,
It is with sorrow and concern that we have learned of the terrorist attack perpetrated in the morning of the 1st of January 2011, nearby the Coptic Christian church of All the Saints in Alexandria, which has caused the death and injury of many tens of Christians.
On behalf of the hierarchs, the clergy and the faithful of the Romanian Orthodox Church, we address our compassionate feelings to the families of those killed or injured and we pray for the souls of those who died so that Christ the Lord, the Crucified and Risen One, may rest them in the light of His love.
In these moments of great sorrow, we express our Christian fraternal solidarity with the Coptic Orthodox Church and we pray that peace replace terror and hatred, and religion may not be the sign of death, but of life and goodwill among people.
With deep esteem and love in Christ the Lord,
† DANIEL
Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church
