Basilica News Agency celebrates today two years since launching. In 2008, at the feast of the Holy Trinity, Basilica News Agency began its activity. After the celebration of the Divine Liturgy by His Grace Ciprian Câmpineanul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch, at the church of Saint Spiridon the New, patriarchal chapel, a ceremony dedicated to the event took place in Europa Christiana room of the Patriarchal Palace, opened with a Te Deum service celebrated in the presence of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel. On this occasion, the basilica.ro site was launched, marking the beginning of the activity of the Basilica News Agency of the Romanian Patriarchate.
Ever since the site was launched, the Patriarch of Romanian has clearly shown that this News Agency does not want to compete with other similar institutions, as its purpose is to bring joy wherever it is sadness and communion where it is loneliness: “Basilica News Agency and all the other branches (of the Basilica Press Centre) does not compete anybody in this world, but it can help anybody if he or she wants salvation. It does not compete with other televisions, with other newspapers, because we are not interested in competition and worldly power, but in bringing joy wherever it is sadness, and communion wherever it is much loneliness”, said His Beatitude.
The activity Basilica News Agency has unfolded since launching till present is very rich, so that the religious events unfolded within the Romanian Orthodox Church, and not only within it, have been publicised in over 10,000 news and information, most of them concerning the life of the eparchies of the Romanian Patriarchate from the country and abroad. Basilica.ro site has been visualised over two million times both from the country and abroad too.
The visualisations from Romania represented almost 40% and those from abroad almost 60%, from: U.S.A., Republic of Moldova, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, England, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, Austria, Hungary, ireland, Russia, Belgium, Switzerland, Holland, Australia, Israel Poland, Turkey, Finland, etc. So, Basilica News Agency is a bridge between the Orthodox Christians from the country and abroad.
