A military and religious ceremony was organized, last week on the Day of anti-communist political prisoners in the 1944-1989 period, at the monument called “Wings” (Aripi) in Bucharest’s Free Press Square.
The event, organized by the State Secretariat for recognizing the merits of fighters against the communist regime installed in Romania between 1945-1989, started with the singing of the National Anthem, after which an Orthodox Christian service was officiated.
Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Presidential Administration, the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, the Government, the Ministry of National Defence, and the December 21, 1989, Association.
The day of anti-communist political prisoners in the 1944-1989 period, which is marked on March 9, was instituted by Parliament in 2011 when a legislative proposal belonging to Liberal senator Puiu Hasotti was adopted.
